The hyperspace jump did not go quite according to plan. Just short of Sullust, the entire fleet was forcefully yanked from lightspeed and dropped into realspace.
The Imperial Interdictor cruiser's gravity wells pulsed forth from its generators, stopping all FTL activity. Awaiting the rebels were 2 ISD 2's, 2 Victory-class Destroyers..smaller but no less tough..several Carrack cruisers configured with new anti-fighter systems, more accurate and much faster-firing.
And of course..the lethality of the Imperial Fighter Corps. For this engagement, TIE Avenger squadrons had been set in place, in addition to the Assault Gunboats, Interceptors, and TIE/ln that normally populated Imperial craft.
Wolf Blitz settled into his Avenger, eagerly awaiting contact. Across the fleet, countless other pilots were doing the same thing, but Blitz had a mission. There were some he couldn't kill, not this time.
The tractor beams flung the fighters free of the hangar bays and they sped to the attack. The rebels, disoriented and confused by the sudden transition to realspace, were roaming about, wondering where exactly they were. They were targets ripe for the picking.
Wolf linked his cannons to quad fire and lined up on a stray X-wing. He led the ship carefully, and made an expert deflection shot: all 4 beams tore into the fighter's shields and through into the hull. The pilot was unprepared, and Blitz took his time making the final shot: 4 beams into an unshielded cockpit. The X-wing blossomed into a wide orange ball of flame and sent debris spinning off into infinity.
"Excellent," Blitz whispered, teeth bared in a killer's grin. "Our first catch of the day." He scanned the battlefield and began assigning targets. "Wolf 2 and 4, take the B-wing headed for Carrack Two. The rest of you, cover me. I'm going for the main defenses on that ugly pickle-ship."
Incoming turbolaser fire flashed past him as he corkscrewed toward the MonCal cruiser. The heavy fire, designed to scorch planets, seared the enemy ship's hull and vapourized entire segments. Wolf grinned again. Things were going entirely according to plan. The rebel scum were trapped, outgunned, outnumbered, and doomed to a quick and certain death. Life was good.

A B-Wing tore across the battlespace toward a Carrack cruiser, and two TIE's settled into chase behind Corban as he sped in a kamikaze spin-dive at the cruiser's cockpit. He opened the foils and ceased his spin, just as several well-aimed green streaks passed where his wings would have been, had he not committed his action.
Corban screamed like a madman, drunk on alchohal and the bloodlust of battle. He pounded the missile button, firing four concussion missiles at the cockpit, as well as several blasts from his B's guns. The red lasers passed the missiles in an instant, beating them to the ship. The Carrack is not known for it's strong shields, which were lowered in an instant. Before the Carrack direct power to the failing front shields, the missiles slammed into it.
The Carrack was in ruins, a drifting ball of twisted metal and and flames, a true, one-in-a-lifetime attack by Corban. He flew into the wreckage, closing his foils, and twisted about them in his more agile fighter. One of the TIE's in pursuit slammed into a hullplate that floated into it's path at the last second, sending it spinning away in flames. The second managed to follow Corban back into the darkness of space.
The TIE pilot was probably kicking himself in anger by now, but Corban wouldn't let the man punish himself. Corban could do it much more efficiently. He turned the ship around, the bladewing pivoting around the cockpick as the foils opened, and Corban let out a flurry of ion blasts. The TIE took several of the blue ion pulses, and drifted harmlessly through space. In this helpless state, Corban blasted it away. He flipped on his comm.
"One Carrack down... Heading for the next one, requesting assistance. I ain't doin' this on my own, now."

Blitz grimaced at the loss of the Carrack. Fortunes of war, he knew. But the rebel pickle was in rough shape, he saw. He flew close, and a laser turret geysered up, flying into space on a plume of its own deathflame. He spiralled around it and fired a pair of missiles into a visibly weakened hull plate. The first explosion was drab..the secondary one, very rewarding. The capital ship was being killed, and there would be no escape.
Rebel fighters flashed into vapour across his field of vision. "Be careful, dammit!" Blitz called over the general freek. "We need to take some of them alive, remember that!" He ground his teeth, holding tight to a secret he dared not reveal, not even now.
"I want THAT B-wing for my own," he announced, clicking his target display to indicate the ship he meant. "Gunboats, close in and be ready with your ion cannons," he called. "I'll take its shields, you stun the thing."
Heavy turbolaser fire poured in from the Victory ships' main cannons. The Lensa was definitely dying. Blitz growled. Too fast! "Hold off the TIE bombers! We can't end this too quickly!!" he shouted. He knew which rebel fighters could be destroyed and which had to be left. The problem was, nobody else seemed to. Laser fire spattered across his shields and the indicators went a dark yellow. He cursed his lack of attention. "But YOU are not one of them," he muttered, locking onto the jinking X-wing. He'd take pleasure in killing this one, for certain.
(OOC: Um, Thrawn..communication required here. Is all going well?)

(Thrawn, losing interest in your love child RP?)
Lights in the cockpit began to fire off, reminding him of impending doom from all sides. His shields were drained by eager TIE's, but once the first blaster struck his hull, they veered off. Suddenly, blue light surrounded him. The foils locked up, the engines burst into flame, and the controls seized up. His ship lurched as a tractor beam grabbed it, and he felt himself being dragged backward.
Corban passed out.

"Prowler Squadron! Hit that Interdictor. One flight, Two flight, go for the gravity well projectors, three flight, hit the bridge!" Janus yelled as he rolled out of the path of a flaming tie. He heard acknowledgments and saw the B-Wings were forming up behind him on his scopes.
"Storm Leader, Blitz Leader, this Prowler Leader, we're gonna need the TIEs off our backs." he said as a turbolaser blast flashed past him and impacted Prowler Three, leaving little more than molten liquid left.
"Five seconds to target."

The attack on the Interdictor had been foreseen as obvious, and measures taken in advance. A vast field of Type C mines surrounded the ship, while the second squadron of Tie Advanced awaited inside the mine shell.
Two Carracks provided additional protection, and the vessel's own guns had been beefed up. Blitz noted the movement on his radar and decided to keep an eye on things; nothing could last two seconds in a Type C minefield, and things were well under control.
(A Type C mine, in case you never played TIE Fighter, will attack you with an advanced concussion missile if you destroy it..and with quad laser cannons if you don't.)

(Polaris, I severly doubt that a VSD is more powerful than an MC80-B.)
Raol Opened his eyes on the carnage in front of him.
"Sir, one of our shield generators is not activiating, that Victory is actually taking down our shields!"
"Get it on!"
"One second......Got it"
The shields sprung into action. The Turbolaser shots from the victory poured into the Lentha's newly strengthened shields.
"I can see mines around that Interdictor. Shoot the interdictor, but take out the mines aswell. Lets kill two bantha's with one stone.
The Lentha's turbolasers poured into the interdictor and surrounding minefield. Explosions rocked the entire battle.

The B-Wing squadron flew on. The Mines were being completely annihilated by the Cruiser's turbolaser fire. The missiles inside were exploding before they could launch.
Janus juked left and right, evading the turbolaser fire coming from the Interdictor, the TIEs were being held up by Blitz and Storm Squadron. Still, some fighters got through, and Prowlers 5,7 and 12 were soon little more than balls of wreckage and gas flying through space.
"Prowler Squadron, open fire."
Torpedo after torpedo left the launchers of the 9 bombers. Janus himself expelled half of his supply. They rocketed over the range, closing the distance quickly...

Admiral Zeck stood on his bridge overviewing the battle, "Pull that Vic back, send it with the other to engage those assault frigates, send the 2 Loronar cruisers to assist with 4 squadrons of torpedo bombers to attack the nebulon B's. send 2 carrack cruisers to harass that frigate-mod, The Devastator and the Annihilator, are to move to attack that Mon Cal-L," the two ISD-2's started to drive wedges of turbolaser and ion cannon fire at the enemy Liberty cruiser, "Make sure that Blitz know that that interdictor is paramount, send him 5 squadrons of interceptors as support, along with a squadron of bombers to stand off with concussion missiles, and the 3 remaining anti fighter carracks to screen the interdictor, put me through to its captain," he turned to the hologram, "Put all power to shields," outcoming fire slackened momentarily but continued at low levels as layers upon layers of shielding engaged angling towards the incoming torpedoes, the remaining firing only took place on one side firing out towards the incoming torpedoes, "send our last squadron of bombers to engage the enemy corvettes at long range, aim to knock out their engines."
--------------------------------------
Jack flipped his X-Wing sideways as a concussion missile from a gunboat flew through where he was before, a quad burst of laser blew it from the sky, standing the fighter on its s foils he pulled a tight turn using his superior speed to pull behind the boat and poured laser files into his rear shields, he saw them falter, and switched to torpedo's launching one to aim for it, he jerked laser energy into his engines, he had seen the B-Wing caught by the tractor beam, the distance closed quickly, "Shaft, im going to fly across that tractor beam, release 2 torpedoes the moment I hit it," he flipped his X-Wing over so the torpedoes tubes were facing up, the X-wing smashed hard into the beam shaking and flipping up towards the ISD, the torpedoes rocketed away on tongues of blue fire, the beam's lock on him was shaky and broke owning to his speed, it seeked the B-wing whose lock he had interrupted and locked onto the torpedo's "Yesss," he hissed turning over as gunners on the bottom of the ship fired at him heading back to the fight.
------------------------------------------------------
Chris angled into a bomber lining for a missile shot on a B-Wing and sent a quad bust of laser fire through the join of its solar wing away, the dual cockpit slowly span away without detonating, he opened a comm channel to that B-Wing, "I suspect you owe me a drink mate," he said as he angled in for another shot at a T.I.E.

Blitz listened intently to the orders coming through the encrypted comm channels. He nodded despite his helmet, and clicked the transmitter. "Form on me and let's get over to the Interdictor," he ordered. "We've got 60 Interceptors joining the party and my squadron of TIE Avengers..not to mention ten thousand mines."
Acknowledgment lights flashed and he spiralled away from the burning Lentha. "Interceptor squadrons: take out those incoming missiles. They're a lot slower than a beam of light and they're moving in a straight line. It'll be easier than the simulators in training," he called. "Avengers, hit the fighters. Vape them once and for all, if the mines leave us any."
His tac display showed the capital ships moving to attack positions and Bombers flying out to add to the carnage. Good, he thought, though he pitied their pilots.
It appeared any capture operations would have to wait; just as well. Killing was more fun.

Janus and the remaining BWings watched as the squints set up to shoot down the missiles. "Fire." he said into his mike.
The BWings opened up with a withering barrage. Massed laser, ion, and blaster cannon fire tore into the interceptors. Janus himself racked up at least two kills with this hail of gunfire.
"AAAH!"
Then he flew through an ion beam. The entire ship shorted out, sending him spinning in the direction of the interdictor, without power, and with no way to eject. He began frantically pressing the cold start button on his fighter as the torpedoes began impacting on it's shields.

Admiral Zeck watched the torpedos impact on the interdictor and a handful get through the sheilding, yet more volleys were coming in, he jabbed his communicator, "Captain execute 180 degree dorsal roll and cut power to the gravity well generators, pump that power into engines and sheilds get yourself out of there," he barked.
---------------------------------
Chris say the interdictor begin a roll then... begin to withdraw from the battle, what on earth?!?
Cutting that thought from his head he flipped his fighter and pored 4 bolts into an interceptor blowing the engines off it, "The interdictor is witdrawing," he muttered, surely it couldnt have taken that much damage.

Blitz frowned as he saw the Interdictor retreating, and his hyperdrive indicator showing "active" again. "What the hell?" he muttered. Things seemed to be going south in a hurry. He toggled the comm link. "This is Blitz. I want all Avengers to form on me and go after that Neb B frigate before it gets away. Two flights of Gunboats join me as well," he ordered. "I want two flights of Bombers to take down that thing's shields, then the Gunboats to paralyze it. We'll take it down at our leisure. The rest of the Bombers and Gunboats, hit the Lentha and put your rockets into the hangar bay. We want to ignite the fuel stores."
He banked hard and flew over the rebel cruiser, intent on his new target. The Interceptors were busy sweeping up Reb fighters; they could continue with that. He slowed and jinked randomly, wanting the bombers to reach the frigate first. He had chosen these fighters because they were loaded with heavy bombs..slow and largely useless against enemy defensive fire, but devastating when they struck home.
A flaming X-wing tumbled past, a pair of Interceptors hard on its tail. Blitz rolled to avoid the dogfight. Good on you, boys, he thought. One less terrorist loose in the galaxy.
The frigate grew larger in his cockpit window and helmet displays; it appeared to be turning for hyperspace insertion. Blitz had other plans for it.
The four bombers streaked past the ship's vulnerable engine section, releasing their heavy loads. Unexpected, the bombs were not fired on, and they struck the shields unopposed. Filters in his helmet cut out the eye-straining glare of the detonations, and the ship yawed badly with the impacts. "That's done it!" he called. "Gunboats, get in their and soak them with ion fire NOW!" he hollered. toggling to quad fire.
Blue arcs swarmed across the hull of the frigate, crackling along the slender connecting decks and covering the main superstructure. The engines strobed and died, and the ship went entirely dark. "All right, gentlemen, time to..." Blitz began, and cut himself off as a stray bolt from the Lentha hit his secondary wingman, who'd switched his shields to double front. The backstabbing shot hit the unprotected rear quarter and instantly vapourized the Avenger, before the pilot could even punch out.
"Dammit!!" Blitz howled. An experienced pilot and a valuable fighter lost to bad luck. Payback would be even sweeter now. Cannon fire and missiles raked the helpless frigate, and blossoms of flame began to appear all over its hull. The connecting decks blew apart, and the engine section began to spin away, harried by Imperial fighters. 1% hull left, he saw in his indicators. "Back off, everyone, this is mine," he said grimly, targeting the scorched hull. Four bright green bolts leapt free, burning into the hull. Twice more Blitz fired, then the ship lit up. Vast forest of fire geysered into space, and the main hull blew apart as he punched the throttle to escape the debris. "Scratch one frigate," Blitz said with satisfaction.
The Lentha was nearly into position for hyperspace insertion.
Blitz sighed. "Requesting tugs for the disabled fighters and SAR shuttles for the ejected pilots," he called to the command ship. Search and Rescue was essential to gather those few Imperial pilots who'd managed to eject, and the even fewer rebels who'd managed it. Not wearing pressure-sealed flight suits meant ejecting the entire cockpit structure, and that was often far too slow to save a stricken pilot. Still, prisoners were prisoners.
He returned to the squadron frequency and ordered, "Everyone, head for home. Excellent work, Blitz Squadron. Extra rations all round." He flew on autopilot, thinking of retirement and Corsuca Beer. It had been far too long.

Corban's eyes opened slowly. He was spinning. B-Wing cockpits don't spin, he knew that. He must have been dislodged from his wing'n'foils by someone. He remembered, faintly, that he was his ship was disabled... Corban owed someone a drink.
He also noticed that, even though he was turning, the speed at wich he was moving through space was slowing steadily. Space, being a vaccuum, can't stop his movement.
"Tractor beam. I'm a prisoner."
